The news has caused backlash from critics, especially some Democrats, who question whether it is appropriate for a president to accept such a lavish gift from a foreign government. Some have raised concerns about the optics and legality of the arrangement.
Trump responded to the criticism on his Truth Social platform. He posted that the U.S. Defense Department is receiving the jet “free of charge” and that it is a transparent and public transaction. He wrote, “So the fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE, of a 747 aircraft to replace the 40-year-old Air Force One, temporarily… so bothers the Crooked Democrats that they insist we pay, TOP DOLLAR, for the plane.”
He ended the post by calling the critics “World Class Losers” and signed off with “MAGA.”
