With more than 32 years at iHeartmedia under his belt, including 21 years in his current post, Doc Wynter is a radio legend!
As President of Hip Hop and R&B Programming Strategy, Wynter plays a major role in roughly 80 Hip Hop, R&B and gospel radio stations nationwide, including WWPR/New York, KRRL/Los Angeles and WGCI/Chicago. “Today the hits can come from anywhere...as can the listeners! Our terrestrial stations are still priorities, but our digital stations are of equal importance now. "We are also keenly aware today that great relationships between the record labels and the radio stations are crucial to our mutual survival," Wynter says.
Doc was born and raised in New York City with Jamaican roots. He attended Trinity College and has a degree in Computer Science coordinated with Economics. Wynter joined Clear Channel/iHeart in 1988 at KC101 New Haven, where he worked with Iheartmedia Chief Programming Officer / National Programming Group President, Tom Poleman, before he moved to KMJM in St. louis, where he hosted the #1 rated radio show, "The Quiet Storm on Majic 108! He became the program director of KMJM in 1995 and then moved to the companies Hip Hop and R&B stations in Jacksonville, Florida (WSOL and later added urban WJBT.) Wynter subsequently took both stations to the number 1 position in the ratings and then was later promoted to lead all the companies Hip Hop and R&B stations in late 1999.
In 2015, he moved to Los Angeles to launch iHeart Radio’s “Real 92-3, LA’s New Home For Hip Hop” with Los Angeles radio legend, Big Boy. A few months go, Wynter returned to the airwaves on his Alma Mater “Majic 104.9” in St. Louis to “Make My Wuh” Thursday evenings between 6p and 7pm central.
Wynter lives in Los Angeles with his hot wife Sabaea and their 2 1/2 year old son, Cole Wynter. Meanwhile his daughter Taylor Wynter recently graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta and Sydni Wynter is finishing her junior year at New York University.
