Sean "Diddy" Combs' attorney plans to ask Judge Arun Subramanian if his client can serve his upcoming sentence at home instead of a prison cell.
In an upcoming edition of "TMZ Live" that will air Friday, August 8, Marc Agnifilo told Harvey Levin the Bad Boy Records founder recognizes that he needs therapy to overcome his issues with anger and substance abuse. Agnifilo previously revealed that Combs had begun receiving treatment before he was arrested last year, but he explained the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn (or any other prison) isn't prepared to offer Combs the proper therapy he needs to recover.
"I am certainly going to be asking the judge, as a condition of his supervised release, that he have appropriate counseling and therapy," Agnifilo said. "I think he needs it. I think he thinks he needs it, and that's the important part. What I think is really irrelevant. He believes that he needs this. He believes this would make him a better person."
Combs' legal team has been doing everything possible to try and get their client out of jail. They requested bail twice since the veteran artist was convicted on Mann Act charges last month. His $50 million bail package would've required him to remain on home detention, submit to drug testing, and limit visitors to only family and business associates. His attorneys also also promised Combs would turn over his passport and limit his travel from his home in Miami to the Southern District of New York. Judge Subramanian denied both requests, citing Combs' alleged acts of violence on multiple victims, including several witnesses who testified during his trial.
Agnifilo also clarified his recent comments about what Combs would do if he were to be released from jail. He previously suggested that he would plan to hit the stage at Madison Square Garden. However, Agnifilo emphasized that Combs will be strictly focused on his family, including his mother, Janice Combs, upon his release and that's it.
Combs is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3. It's more than likely that he'll face up to three years in prison.
